In 2014, The Faint put out their sixth studio effort, Doomed Abuse. Although there’s no word on a proper follow-up just yet, the Omaha collective has returned with “Young & Realistic”. Their first release in over two years sees the dance-punk outfit cozying up to club music more than ever before, accompanied by chunky synths and radiant strobe lights. Consider this The Faint if they joined forces with DFA Records.
Frontman Todd Fink talked about the song to Stereogum:
“I believe this one goes in The Faint Danse Party folder. We wrote, recorded, and mixed it ourselves here at our studio in Omaha, Nebraska. Pretty song-y for club music and pretty clubby for indie/punk, this one falls right in the sweet spot. I love that warm bouncy bass synth (it’s a CS15 if you must know). This might be a love song. Maybe it’s a respect song. Those are intertwined concepts I suppose. Without respect, love is a weaker bond.”
