The National to headline benefit concert for Syrian refugees

Hamilton, Ontario-based event also features Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, Hayden, and others

    Sadly, Syrian refugees haven’t been receiving the warmest of welcomes everywhere they end up. However, The National are doing their part to ensure Syrian youth are not only embraced with open arms, but also provided with activities to keep their minds positively engaged.

    Exclaim reports that the Brooklyn band will headline Welcome to Hamilton, a benefit concert to support “music, arts, and recreation for Syrian newcomer youth” who arrive in Hamilton, Ontario. The National top a bill that also includes Hayden, Kevin Drew, Arkells’ Max Kerman, TERRA LIGHTFOOT, Mother Tareka, and Crystal Journey. Journalist/broadcaster/Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships at Sheridan College Ralph Benmergui will host the event.

    Welcome to Hamilton will go down June 3rd at New Vision United Church in downtown Hamilton. Tickets are priced at $100 (Canadian) each, with all proceeds funding newcomer youth programs, and go on sale via Ticketfly beginning this Friday, May 13th.
