Fede Alvarez, who helmed the polarizing and outrageously violent Evil Dead remake, looks to continue on the path of reviving horror’s most brutal instincts this summer. His latest, Don’t Breathe, follows a trio of petty criminals (Jane Levy, w, and Dylan Minnette) who land on the perfect heist: a blind man (Stephen Lang) living on his own.
Unfortunately for the thieves, Lang also happens to be a veteran with acute survival (and hunting) skills. By all early accounts it’s a nasty piece of work, the kind of hard-hitting genre movie that major studios are becoming more and more reluctant to turn out as time goes on. Reviews have gone back and forth over whether this is a good thing (our SXSW coverage skewed negative, for one), but either way this is a horror flick that’s going to get people talking.
