Back in February, it was revealed that a new supergroup called Giraffe Tongue Orchestra had officially been born. The mighty rock outfit collects together Alice in Chains singer William DuVall, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, and Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman, along with Dethklok bassist Pete Griffin and former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen. While word of new music had not yet been confirmed at the time, they’ve now formally announced plans to release their debut album.

Titled Broken Lines, the LP is due to hit shelves on September 23rd via Party Smasher Inc./Cooking Vinyl. Among the record’s tracks are songs named “Fragments & Ashes”, “Adapt or Die”, “Back to the Light”, “All We Have Is Now, ,”Everyone Gets Everything They Really Want”, and “Blood Moon.” As previously noted, Juliette Lewis provided backup vocals throughout; Jon Theodore, drummer for Queens of the Stone Age, also makes an appearance.

Weinman divulged the album details in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Daniel P. Carter. Of DuVall, he said, “He’s an unbelievable vocalist; he’s the most professional musician I’ve ever met.” Weinman also noted how challenging it was to record the new album:

“This band has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to achieve in my life. Many times I considered just giving up on it because it just seemed like it wasn’t meant to be.

From the very start it was something that was just supposed to be fun and kind of casual so, in essence, even if it didn’t work out that would have been fine. For some reason Brent and I kept just wanting to continue to try to find the right kind of chemistry to make this happen, and William actually was the first guy we ever talked to about singing with this project when it was just me and Brent, interestingly enough.”
