BadBadNotGood and Kaytranada joined forces to great effect on last month’s 99.9%, the latter’s full-length debut as well as one of the year’s best releases thus far. This week, the two Canadian acts have linked up yet again for more magic on new song “Lavender”.
Like a true hybrid of both BadBadNotGood and Kaytranada, it’s highlighted by woozy, jazzy bits and synths that tend to growl and glow. In a statement to FADER, BadBadNotGood explained how the track came to be:
“We made ‘Lavender’ amongst many other songs and samples with Kaytranada in our home studio, Studio 69. Kay started the idea as a beat with our drum breaks and some synth melodies. Then we recut the drums and synth to formulate a song with more sections. Kay came back to Toronto and gave us that hot lead melody as well as percussion and we all finalized the arrangement. It’s an incredible honour to call Kay a close friend of ours; he is a talent like no other.”

“Lavender” is taken from BadBadNotGood’s upcoming album, IV, due to hit shelves on July 8th. For more, check out the previously released single “Time Moves Slow”, featuring Sam Herring of Future Islands.
