His Holiness' response was absolutely priceless

Fox News, ever the bastion of journalism excellence, recently sat down with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and asked him about, of all things, Caddyshack.

In what I can only chalk up as humanity’s failure to tell Bret Baier, “no you aren’t funny,” the Fox News anchor closed his interview by asking His Holiness whether he had ever seen the Dalai Lama scene in Caddyshack. A quick Google search reveals that His Holiness rarely watches television, and when he does, he prefers the Discovery channel and documentary films, which may explain why he was utterly confused by Baier’s question.

    The transcript via Gawker:

Bret Baier: Last thing, have you ever seen the movie Caddyshack?

    Dalai Lama: What?

    Baier: Caddyshack, the movie.

    Dalai Lama: I don’t know.

Baier: The part about the Dalai Lama. Have you ever played golf?

    Dalai Lama: No.

Baier: You’re not a big hitter?

    Dalai Lama: In badminton.

    Baier: But not golf?

    Dalai Lama: No.

Baier: There’s a classic movie called Caddyshack where they talk about the Dalai Lama.

    Dalai Lama: I see.

Baier: I had to ask you about it.

    Dalai Lama: I don’t know.

Baier: Well thank you very much for the time.

I can only imagine Baier’s disappointment in not getting to tell the Dalai Lama, “we’re all going to get laid!”
