German rock festival Rock am Ring has been suspended following lightning strikes that injured at least 80 people.
According to BBC, eight attendees suffered serious injuries, including two people who had to be resuscitated at the scene.
The weather at the festival grounds, which is a former airfield 62 miles west of Frankfurt, took a turn for the worst late Friday. And on Saturday, organizers insisted the tens of thousands of attendees to seek shelter following an order from local authorities to put the festival on hold.
“It’s not about causing panic but giving people the feeling that someone is looking after them,” Marek Lieberberg, head of the organizers, told ABC.
ABC also reported that if the weather improves, organizers hope to resume the festival later Saturday evening, though they were wary due to the fact that more storms and severe weather has been forecasted for Sunday as well.

The festival has been one of Germany’s most popular since its inception in 1985. This year’s lineup was headlined by Red Hot Chili Peppers, other acts included Black Sabbath, Foals, Tenacious D, The Struts and more.
