When the new Ghostbusters film arrives in theaters next month, fans may love it or hate it for all the predictable reasons. One thing’s for sure, though: This is only our first taste of the new Ghostbusters universe. As Deadline reports, a new animated television series entitled Ghostbusters: Ecto Force is set to arrive in early 2018, and it brings with it an entirely new set of characters from the same cinematic universe as the forthcoming Paul Feig film.
Set in the year 2050, the cartoon will focus on the next generation of Ghostbusters who travel around the world capturing ghosts with help from local squads. Though the demographic for Ecto Force will skew younger, longtime fans of the franchise will undoubtedly tune in because the project is being spearheaded by none other than Ivan Reitman, the director of the original 1984 Ghostbusters film. Reitman’s production company Ghost Corps is behind the project, as well as several other ventures aimed at unifying the franchise across mediums.
Time will tell if Ecto Force surpasses the previous Ghostbusters animated series, The Real Ghostbusters of the late 1980s, in quality and vision. But having Reitman on board is definitely a good start.
