Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne debuted new music during an impromptu show in Paris last month, suggesting that material for a Reflektor follow-up is coming together nicely. In a Reddit AMA today, fellow band member and Win’s brother Will Butler confirmed as much, adding that the new Arcade Fire album could be here next spring. He cautioned, however, that “No definite schedule though. It’ll be done when it’s done.”
While it still seems far off, a Spring 2017 release date would make sense given the band’s recording progress thus far. Earlier this month, drummer Jeremy Gara said the Canadian indie rockers have been recording “since last fall,” adding, “We’ve got songs, lots of ideas…” Violinist Sarah Neufeld also recently gave an interview in which she said a new album from Arcade Fire would be coming “sooner than you think.”
Reflektor, the group’s fourth studio effort, came out in 2013 to much acclaim. It landed on many year-end lists and was nominated for both a Grammy Award and Polaris Music Prize. Arcade Fire went on to support the LP with an extensive world tour which featured 68 different songs, including 35 covers.
