Kirsten Dunst is on fire.
After owning the second season of Fargo last year, the 34-year-old actress has kept things interesting by starring in Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special and signing on to Sofia Coppola’s remake of The Beguiled. Now, she’s finally set to make her directorial debut with an adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel, The Bell Jar.
Set in the 1950s, the semi-autobiographical story follows Esther Greenwood, a young woman from the Boston suburbs who becomes mentally unstable during a summer internship with a magazine in New York City. Much of the novel paralleled the life of Plath, who committed suicide shortly after publication.
Dakota Fanning will star as Greenwood, working from a screenplay written by Dunst and co-writer Nellie Kim. Production is slated to begin early 2017 with a release to follow later in the year. For now, let’s just keep our fingers crossed she wins that fucking Emmy come September. Who could snub this?
