Last month, Merchandise previewed their upcoming album with summery lead single “Flower of Sex”. The post-punk outfit returns this week with more details on the record: It’s named A Corpse Wired For Sound and due to hit shelves on September 23rd via 4AD.
The nine-track effort serves as the follow-up to one of 2014’s best LPs in After the End. It was recorded in Italy, Germany, Florida, and New York and represents something of a metaphoric “death” of the band.
“We were ‘reborn’ as a rock band for [debut album] After The End. And then we straight-up died again,” guitarist Dave Vassalotti says in a press release. “It couldn’t last. The result is this distended corpse responding to you from both sides of the Atlantic, forever singing in spite of everything.”
Along with the album announcement, Merchandise have shared a slow-burning number called “End of the Week” and its accompanying mirror-themed video, which pays homage to director Michelangelo Antonioni. “It’s the broken image of humanity reflecting back at everyone when they read the news,” frontman Carson Cox explains of the symbolic use of mirrors.
