In the six years since they emerged from Brooklyn’s DIY scene, Total Slacker have stayed tenacious — through lineup changes, evolving musical direction, and a fluctuating industry. Indeed, despite the band name, their persistence and devotion to their craft have resulted in nationwide tours alongside Thee Oh Sees, Wavves, and Best Coast, as well as three full-lengths, including their upcoming Parallels LP.

“Olympus Hills”, a track off the new record, encapsulates Total Slacker’s approach when it comes to facing off against a challenge or obstacle. “If you throw away your fear, if you believe then you’ll see,” lead singer Tucker Rountree inspires, his vocals backed by foggy dream pop that recalls elements of The Police, The Smiths, and contemporary acts Beach Fossils and DIIV. Much of the haziness can also be attributed to guest guitarist Nick Kivlen of Sunflower Bean.

In a statement to Consequence of Sound, Rountree said the song “is about believing in something, and believing in yourself to overcome adversity. It is about turning faith into taking action at a time when you’re unsure that what you’re seeing is believing and manifesting your dreams requires a path with many challenges.”
