Earlier this month, we saw CHVRCHES salute Rihanna by covering her smash Calvin Harris collaboration “This What You Came For”. At this past Friday’s Reading Festival, the Glasgow synthpop outfit paid tribute to another icon of sorts: Harambe, the 17-year-old gorilla that was killed at a Cincinnati Zoo in May and has since gone on to spawn an incredible (though not entirely appreciated) meme movement. Prior to performing The Bones of What You Believe track “Under the Tide”, the band’s Martin Doherty declared, “R.I.P. Harambe.” (A much more suitable, PG-friendly dedication than, say, “Dicks Out For Harambe”.)
Check out footage of the tribute above (via Stereogum).
