While the future of Amoeba Music’s Los Angeles location remains in doubt, the record store’s two other locations are looking to secure their future with a fledgling side business: For over two years, Amoeba Music San Francisco has been moonlighting as a marijuana dispensary; now, Amoebic Music Berkeley has obtained a license to do the same exact thing.
As Marc Weinstein explained to us in an interview late last year, the Berkeley store intends to convert its jazz room into a dispensary. “Weed can help save music—absolutely,” co-owner Dave Prinz added in an interview with the East Bay Express. “It also fits in with what we do, who we are. It’s counterculture to a very high degree.”
