Last we heard the members of Tool were “grinding away on new material four days a week.” That update came back in July, and it appears the band has made some headway since then. At least, that’s if you believe the words of Late Night host Seth Meyers.
Tool drummer Danny Carey is sitting in with the show’s house band all week, and while introducing Carey during last night’s episode, Meyers said (and I quote), “Be sure to look out for a new album from Tool sometime soon.”
Of course, Meyers could simply have Googled “Tool” prior to the episode and reiterated the first thing he came across — unaware that he’d be toying with many fans’ emotions in the process. Still, Carey didn’t dismiss Meyers’ statement; instead, he simply smiled and said, “It’s my first time on TV” (which seems hard to believe, but is apparently 100% true).
Whether we see it “sometime soon” or in another 10 years, whenever Tool’s new album surfaces, it’ll mark the band’s first since 2006’s 10,000 Days. Next month, the band will hit the road for a string of US tour dates and festival appearances.
