This week has been a rare treat for Jack White fans. Not only did he release his new archival album Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016 today, but he took a hiatus from his live hiatus to appear on Jimmy Fallon. He announced a break from the stage in April 2015, and this was just his third live performance since then. Even better, the appearance marked his first-ever televised solo acoustic performance, making it even more special.

White performed an acoustic melody of “Love Is the Truth” (the song he wrote for Coca-Cola) and The White Stripes’ “You’ve Got Her in Your Pocket”. Early on in the performance, White was visibly emotional, even fighting back tears. Watch the replay up above.

Prior to the performance, White sat down with Fallon for a brief interview. They spoke about White’s acoustic guitar of choice and when Fallon responded that he owns a Fender Newport, White joked that it was “a beginner’s guitar for children.”
