Earlier this week, Jim James announced plans to release his second solo album, Eternally Evens, later this fall. Today, he’s offered fans a peek at the follow-up to 2013’s Regions of Light and Sound of God with lead single “Same Old Lie”.

“It’s the same old lie they tell you when you’re little/ Try to make you forget what it is you’re really made of,” the My Morning Jacket frontman sings in a steady, low-key croon over a heavily pulsating, distorted beat. It’s as though he’s being careful not to draw the attention of society’s brainwashers as he intones, “But you and me, we ain’t like most everyone/ Pure individual bright as the shining sun and sure as hell we know, where it is we come from.”

    Take a listen below.

Eternally Even, which was co-produced by James and Blake Mills, arrives on November 4th via ATO/Capitol Records. Find the tracklist below. James will hit the road for an extensive US tour behind the LP.
