Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds share solemn new song “Jesus Alone” and video — watch

Our first official look at Cave's Skeleton Tree album and it's corresponding film

Next month, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will put out two projects, an album called Skeleton Tree and its companion film, One More Time with Feeling. Following a brief trailer for both releases last month, Cave has broken off “Jesus Alone”, the somber first single off the LP.

“You believe in god, but you get no special dispensation for this belief now,” Cave can be heard bellowing solemnly, like someone who’s slowly come to the realization that perhaps The Man in the Clouds has forsaken him. “You’re a distant memory in the mind of your creator, don’t you see?”

A black-and-white video for the song, also released today, shows Cave — a stoic and imposing figure, even in his grief — and a number of musicians recording in a studio. The clip is said to be taken from One More Time with Feeling.

Check it out above. Skeleton Tree, the follow-up to 2013’s Push the Sky Away  arrives on September 9th; the film will premiere one time only the night before.
