Rob Lowe will play a French Canadian mayor in Super Troopers 2

Cult comedy sequel gets its biggest star yet in Lowe, who will play the mayor of a Quebecois border town

The prospect of a sequel to 2001 cult comedy Super Troopers seemed like a long shot at one point, but last year’s hugely successful crowdfunding campaign turned the dream of Super Troopers 2 into a reality. The Broken Lizard troupe started production on the film in Boston last week and the good news keeps coming, as Deadline now reports that bona fide A-lister Rob Lowe has signed on for a major role in the film.

Yes, that’s the same Rob Lowe who was mercilessly mocked at last week’s Comedy Central roast (though, to be fair, he had it a lot easier than conservative pundit Ann Coulter). Lowe will reportedly ham it up in the film as Guy Le Franc, a Quebecois mayor and former professional hockey player.

Fox Searchlight will distribute Super Troopers 2 when it’s ready to roll. Until then, we’ll just have to fantasize about what Lowe’s French Canadian accent might sound like.
