Since releasing their self-titled debut in 2014, duo Sylvan Esso have been honing their indie pop chops more on the road than in the studio. In fact, one of the only pieces of new music they’ve shared in the interim was actually written for a podcast instead of any sort of album. Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn are finally gearing up for their anticipated studio return, however, and it beings today with the release of their new single, “Radio”.

A resolute beat and twitchy electronics converge to create pulsating waves that feel like hands on your hips telling you how to sway. It’s a bit of a feint, though, as even as the track makes you move, the lyrics warn you against falling for the shallow sell of modern media. “Don’t you look good sucking American dick?,” Meath asks derisively. “You’re so surprised they like you/ You’re so cute and so quaint/ Singing, I got the moves of a TV queen/ Folk girl hero in a magazine/ Faking the truth in a new pop song/ Don’t you want to sing along?”
