Comedian Zach Galifianakis recently resurrected his painfully awkward talk show Between Two Ferns in order to host Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, but don’t expect him to extend the same invitation to her Republican rival Donald Trump. In an interview with the LA Times, Galifianakis was asked if he’d been approached by the Trump campaign to get in on the action, and his response was icy even by Between Two Ferns standards:
No. That doesn’t interest me. Doing it the other way doesn’t interest me. He’s the kind of guy who likes attention – bad attention or good attention. So you’re dealing with a psychosis there that’s a little weird.
I wouldn’t have somebody on that’s so mentally challenged. I feel like I’d be taking advantage of him. And you can print that.
That’s too bad for Trump, because Clinton’s appearance set a Funny or Die record with more than 30 million views in its first 24 hours. Speaking about his offscreen interactions with Clinton, Galifianakis was more effusive in his praise. “I walked away from that whole interview going, ‘She’s cool.’ I thought she was cool, and I don’t know if that was my impression of her before that,” he said, adding, “I don’t think you can get as far as she has in American politics without a sense of humor.” Watch the full interview with Clinton below.
