ABBA called it quits almost 35 years ago and haven’t looked back since, despite their obvious longstanding popularity in the music world, on Broadway, and beyond. While it doesn’t look like they’ll be reconvening any time soon, the Swedish pop geniuses are giving their fans the next best thing: holograms!
As noted on their Facebook page, an “artificial intelligence” version of ABBA is reforming. At the helm of the project is Simon Fuller, the entertainment industry wizard known for creating American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. “We are exploring a new technological world, with Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined,” he said of the “reunions,” which will be further detailed next year.
All four members of ABBA — Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad — are expected to be participate in the creative process of Fuller’s project in order to maintain “the authenticity and integrity of the bands original vision.” “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here,” said Andersson. “A time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”
