To kill time between his Desert Trip’s two weekends, Sir Paul McCartney headed to a dusty roadhouse in Joshua Tree, California on Thursday night.

Yes, perhaps the most famous living musician hit the stage at Pappy & Harriet’s Palace and gave 300 lucky fans a once-in-a-lifetime performance. The 21-song set boasted favorites from The Beatles (“A Hard Day’s Night”, “Lady Madonna”, “Back in the U.S.S.R.”), Wings (“Nineteen Hundred and Eight-Five”, “Band on the Run”), and his own solo work (“Save Us”, “My Valentine”).

According to The Desert Sun, McCartney booked the gig at Pappy & Harriet’s Palace after hearing about the venue from a friend. Wanting to play a “real desert” gig, McCartney sought to limit admittance to only locals. Among those in attendance, according to the Sun, were QOTSA frontman and Joshua Tree native Josh Homme, British artist, David Hockney, and McCartney’s wife, Nancy.
