Marilyn Manson is expected to return with his tenth studio album on Valentine’s Day. The follow-up to 2015’s The Pale Emperor is titled Say10 (get it?) and is being previewed today with a gory music video for its title track.
Helmed by Final Girl director Tyler Shields, it finds Manson, fingers bloodied, sitting on a throne while playing with a knife and flipping through pages of a Bible. Staying true to the shock rocker’s ways, the clip then cuts to a scene of what appears to be a beheaded Donald Trump, his lifeless body surrounded by a pool of blood.
While it seems he’s slamming the wannabe politician, Manson — who has previously said he will be skipping out on the 2016 election — is careful to note that the new video is open to interpretation. “It’s about the desperate acts of people who believe something that is preached by an unbeliever,” he told The Daily Beast.
“Right now we’re in such a state of confusion when it comes to religion, politics, sexuality, and how they all tie together, and it’s being turned into a circus and a sideshow,” he added, “And that’s something that I’ve been described as a ringleader of. It seems like a time for me as an artist, and as an American artist, to make something that causes a new set of questions to arise that aren’t simply statements.”
