Last November, Colin Hanks announced a new documentary called Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends). It was inspired by Eagles of Death Metal’s return to Paris just months after the Bataclan terrorist attack that left 89 of their fans dead. Prior to the film’s February 13th airdate, HBO has debuted a trailer for the Hanks-directed documentary.
Still, the trailer opens with footage from the Bataclan concert to give background for those viewers unfamiliar with the attack before moving onto Hughes’ tearful recollection about the tragic event. After a glimpse into EODM’s return to Paris, Bono and Homme (who wasn’t at the original show) both speak about their friend and his reaction to the attack.
There’s no glimpse into Hughes’ controversial statements about his belief that Bataclan security’s involvement in the attack (which he later walked back) or his emboldened pro-gun stance, but Hanks said the documentary doesn’t “walk around it.” We’ll just have to take him at his word and see for ourselves when the documentary airs Monday, February 13th at 10 pm on HBO.
