Foxygen are just over a week away from dropping their new album, Hang. The duo recorded the effort with a 40-plus-piece symphony orchestra, which we’ve thus far heard on the dramatic swing of “America” and the ’70s groove of “Follow the Leader”. Now, the band takes a turn down an Americana lane with their latest single, “On Lankershim”.
The track has plenty of Hang’s massive instrumentation, full of abundant strings and horns pulled from an E Street Band recording session. But there’s also a moaning bit of slide guitar, giving the track a dusty feel even with all its bright moments. “On Lankershim” comes via its video, above, which sees Sam France and Jonathan Rado exploring their own low-budget version of Los Angeles.
“We love all those old big budget videos about Hollywood, so we wanted to make our own version of that,” the band said in a statement. “We got out the old 66 Mustang and drove around LA and the Valley, getting shots of what LA life looks like to us. We filmed most of it and directed it ourselves, so it would be as close to how we see LA as possible.”
Hang is out January 20th via Jagjaguwar. Pre-orders are available via Foxygen’s Secretly Store page. In addition to standard formats (CD, LP, and cassette), a limited-edition bundle contains the LP on translucent green vinyl, the CD, a flexi disc featuring demos of “Follow the Leader” and “On Lankershim”, a poster, and a digital download.
Foxygen will tour behind the record in the spring, and those dates can be found here.
