Judging by progress reports from the band, the new Gorillaz album should be nearly complete. Today, with the release of a new SoundCloud playlist, Noodle gives fans a peek into some of the female musical inspirations behind one of 2017’s most anticipated LPs.
“In search of new sounds and new inspiration, I found these kick-ass women who in their own individual ways are true pioneers in the writing, production and creation of MUSIC,” Noodle wrote on Twitter. “They have inspired me, and I hope they inspire you too.”

The 12-track mix includes “REALiTi” by Grimes and “O Superman” from Laurie Anderson, as well as selections from synthpop songwriter Empress Of, acclaimed composer Mica Levi, and Kuwaiti electronic musician Fatima Al Quadiri. The whole thing features narration by the late English musician Delia Derbyshire and Polaris Prize-nominated percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Stream the full playlist below.
