If you bonked your head and woke up in a fever dream of the 1980s, it might look something very much like Superbody’s new video for “Patricia”. Pink pastels and geometric lines reign supreme in the Tennessee duo’s shared vision, which embraces all the thrills and excesses of ’80s pop without ever stopping to feel shame. That’s a damn good thing, as the hooks in “Patricia” are not to be denied, barreling forth in a clean, athletic fashion that feels like the cherry on top of the 21st century’s swing toward poptimism.

“Patricia” appears on Superbody’s forthcoming sophomore effort Youth Music, the follow-up to their 2015 debut LP Hades Land. When we asked the duo to explain the song, they spoke in the matter-of-fact language of the heartbroken but undeterred: “Songwriting can be a very simple process, especially if your subject matter won’t stop being so damn complicated.” Patricia, wherever you are, stay complicated.
