Fans of Ty Segall may have been slightly blindsided by “Orange Color Queen”, the lead single off his forthcoming self-titled album. The track is a pastoral ballad, showing a side of the garage rock guitarist that we rarely see. But it’s no indication that he’s gone soft and sweet on the rest of Ty Segall, as proven by the record’s freshest tease, “Break A Guitar”.

Right from the title, you can tell this is the type of Segall we all know and love. It holds the sort of ’70s vibe that colored the previous single, but here’s it’s presented as pure, thrashing rock ‘n’ roll instead of acoustic romance. Yet even as guitars thunder and crunch while Segall sings out, “Baby gonna break a guitar/ Gonna make it a real big guitar,” there’s a hooky melody playing out that makes it purely pleasing for all its noise. Take a listen below.
