Singer Tony Mills, who fronted the bands Shy and TNT, has passed away at the age of 57 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mills first made a name for himself in the 1980s as the vocalist in the UK band Shy, recording multiple albums during a couple of stints with the hard rock and glam metal outfit. They were best known for their single “Break Down the Walls”, which was co-written by Don Dokken.

After initially leaving Shy in 1991, he went on to record albums with the band Siam as well as a number of solo LPs. He rejoined Shy in 2000, and remained with them until he joined the veteran Norwegian metal band TNT in 2006, replacing longtime singer Tony Harnell.

Mills recorded three albums with TNT before leaving the group in 2013. His most recent LP was a solo effort titled Beyond the Law, released in June of this year.

Mills died on Wednesday (September 18th), and his passing was reported by his wife, Linda, who wrote on Facebook:

“It is with a shattered heart that I announce the passing of my loving husband and best friend Tony Mills. He was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in April of this year and lived his life to the fullest until he exhaled for the last time in my arms. He wanted to live, but wasn’t afraid of death.

Most will know him through his incredible contribution to the music world as a singer in bands like Shy and TNT as well as a solo artist and session vocalist. He leaves behind him a legacy that will live on for many lifetimes.”

TNT issued the following statement: “You gave us 3 great albums, many great concerts and many great moments together on the road and in the studio. We feel a terrible loss. F**k Cancer!”

Fellow hard rock vocalist Jeff Scott Soto also paid tribute to Mills, calling him a “humbled yet great singer.”

Our condolences go out to Tony Mills’ family, friends, and bandmates. See his wife’s full tribute below, followed by clips of him singing with Shy and TNT.
