After playing a handful of reunion shows this year, Porno for Pyros are now working on their first new music in a quarter century.

Guitarist Peter DiStefano shared the news via Instagram, where he posted a photo of himself and singer Perry Farrell, captioning it, “@pornoforpyros writing and recording new music.”

During their initial run in the ’90s, Porno for Pyros only released two studio albums, 1993’s self-titled effort and 1996’s Good God’s Urge. Their last recording was the 1997 single “Hard Charger” for the Private Parts soundtrack.

Farrell revived Porno for Pyros this year after his main band, Jane’s Addiction, were forced to cancel their appearances at the Welcome to Rockville and Lollapalooza festivals due to guitarist Dave Navarro’s battle with long COVID. In addition to playing those fests, Porno for Pyros also played club shows in Los Angeles and Chicago.

The first show at Welcome to Rockville wasn’t a full-on reunion, as drummer Stephen Perkins fell ill right before the gig, leading to his drum tech performing in his place. That gig also featured latter-day Porno for Pyros bassist Mike Watt.

However, the other three shows did feature the original lineup of Farrell, DiStefano, Perkins, and bassist Martyn LeNoble.

This is not the first time DiStefano has mentioned that Porno for Pyros were working on new music. The band performed a couple of songs for a Lollapalooza livestream in 2020, and in July 2021, the guitarist teased via Facebook that he and Perkins were working on new Porno for Pyros material.

As of now, Porno for Pyros have no further concerts scheduled, but fans can catch Farrell and Perkins when Jane’s Addiction embark on a North American tour with The Smashing Pumpkins this fall. The “Spirits on Fire Tour” kicks off October 2nd in Dallas, and runs through November 19th in Los Angeles, with tickets available via Ticketmaster.
