Måneskin is a glam-rock act from Italy. Formed in 2016, the band is made up of vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio.
After David, Raggi, and Angelis met while attending high school in Rome, they banded together to start playing music. Torchio joined soon after, responding to a Facebook advert Måneskin had set up to recruit a drummer. With a full lineup, the band signed up for Pulse, a local contest that showcased new artists in the area. It was then the four decided they’d perform under the name Måneskin, a Danish word meaning “moonlight.”
Måneskin began performing locally, both busking and doing small gigs. In 2017, they were featured on the reality talent show The X Factor. They would go on to place second in the competition before releasing their song “Chosen” in an EP of the same name. In 2018, the band followed the success of the EP by releasing their debut album, Il ballo della vita, which featured their first Italian-language songs. A documentary titled This Is Måneskin accompanied the album’s release. The tour surrounding Il ballo della vita, which was also the band’s first tour, proved extremely successful, selling out dates around the world.
2021 saw the release of the first volume of Måneskin’s Teatro d'ira project, simply known as Vol. I. Later that year, the band would compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, proving to be the favorites as the competition neared. The buzz was soon validated, as Måneskin took first place. Måneskin followed the victory by releasing additional singles, including "Mammamia" and a live recording of their cover of the Four Seasons’ “Beggin’,” which they originally performed on The X Factor.
The band released the single “SUPERMODEL” in 2022, later performing it at 2022’s Eurovision Song Contest. They also performed the song at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, where the band took home the Best Alternative Award for “I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE.”
