An August 2012 bus crash nearly ended the career, let alone life of John Baizley, frontman of Savannah, GA based metal band Baroness. The accident injured nine, with Baizley himself suffering a broken left arm and broken left leg. Following years of rehab and the departure of two band members, Baroness are finally ready to make its glorious comeback with the release of Purple, out December 18th.

In this exclusive Q&A, Rock it Out! Blog host Sami Jarroush catches up with frontman John Baizley prior to the band sold out show at Chicago’s Beat Kitchen. Baizley discusses the writing process for Purple and why it’s much more rooted in collaboration. He also discusses how he comes up with the designs for the band’s elaborate album art pieces.
