Cheap Trick’s At Budokan is long considered one of rock’s greatest live albums. To celebrate its legacy, Consequence gathered four music luminaries to discuss the album, and they were soon joined in the discussion by an actual legendary member of Cheap Trick.
Slipknot singer Corey Taylor, singer-songwriter-producer Linda Perry, singer-songwriter-producer Butch Walker, and renowned Cheap Trick producer Jack Douglas (who supervised the mix of At Budokan) came together via video Zoom to talk about the classic live album. The four also discussed their introduction to Cheap Trick and the band’s remarkable staying power.
About halfway into the conversation, none other than Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen surprised the panel by popping into the Zoom and giving a first-hand account of At Budokan and other matters concerning the band.
What took place was a fascinating discussion, including some incredible stories from Douglas. The veteran producer also took the panel behind the scenes of his work with John Lennon on the Double Fantasy album and shared some amazing anecdotes related to The Beatles.
Meanwhile, Perry co-wrote the song “Here’s Looking at You” on Cheap Trick’s latest album, In Another World, and talked about collaborating with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band in the studio.
