This past summer, Dani Filth revealed he was in communication with pop superstar Ed Sheeran regarding a potential collaboration. As unlikely as it may seem, Sheeran is a big metal fan who grew up on Dani’s band Cradle of Filth, as well as Slipknot and other heavy acts.

Heavy Consequence recently caught up with Dani Filth over Zoom to discuss Cradle of Filth’s 2021 album, Existence Is Futile, as seen in Part 1 of our video interview, but we also had to ask about the latest happenings with Ed Sheeran.

“Ed’s expressed a desire to be part of a song, and we’re currently looking at some options, and that’s about as far as it’s got,” Dani told us in the video clip above. “He did invite me up to his house — he doesn’t live very far from me, probably 18 to 20 miles from where I live.”

“The thing that interests me, if we would undertake [the collaboration], the juxtaposition between what we do and what he does,” Dani continued. “I think it’s a bit of a challenge to undertake.”

He added, “I’ve really favored that of late. I’ve done a guest spot with Bring Me the Horizon, The 69 Eyes, and, more recently, Twiztid, as well. And, on each of those occasions, I’ve had people say to me … ‘That’s not going to work. That’s going to be really weird’ … and people saying that means I’ll just do the opposite.”

Dani went on to speak about his collaboration with Bring Me the Horizon on the song “Wonderful Life,” for which he also appeared in a humorous lyric video. Oddly enough, after our conversation with the Cradle of Filth frontman, Sheeran and BMTH recently joined forces at the Brit Awards, sharing the stage for a heavy rendition of Sheeran’s “Bad Habits.”
