It’s a fresh, new perspective on why these albums are filed under “M” for masterpiece.
In the ’70s, England was a hot bed of raucous punk rock. While the Sex Pistols led the charge, The Clash were making noise of their own. Distorted chords, pounding drums, and lyrics railing against the British and American governments would all end up on their 1977 self-titled debut and instantly made them a force in the UK music scene.
Since its release, the album’s been praised as one of the greatest punk rock albums of all time, appearing on several best of- lists from multiple noted and acclaimed publications. What’s more, the “Dean” himself, aka legendary music critic Robert Christgau, called The Clash, “the greatest rock and roll album ever manufactured.”
